Wood Fired Sauna

The cedar wood fired sauna is included in your stay! It is a self serve amenity that is organized through a signup sheet on the fridge in the Cookhouse. Guests are encouraged to prepare the fire themselves, but you can reach out to someone on our team for help if needed. Read more about the Hot House Etiquette & Instructions for Lighting Fire

Our Hot House is a handcrafted, wood-fired barrel style sauna with a view of the mountains, ocean and trees. You will find it nestled in the forest between Raven’s Roost and Hummingbird Pod, but you can also check out a map of our property to see how to get there.

During spring, summer and fall you can also enjoy the shower house right behind the sauna. It is considered good etiquette in a sauna to shower prior to getting in, and it feels great to rinse off when you get out. While you are waiting for your sauna to get to temperature, use the shower house to rinse off.

How it works

The heat from the wood burning stove increases the body’s core temperature, which can lead to an increase in blood flow and sweating. Sweating helps to flush toxins out of the body and can also help to relieve muscle tension. The heat and humidity in the sauna can also help to open up airways, making it easier to breathe. Other benefits include:

  1. The heat and humidity can help to relax muscles and reduce stress

  2. The heat and increased heart rate from sauna use can improve cardiovascular health

  3. Sweating in a sauna can help to remove toxins from the body and promote overall health

  4. Saunas can help alleviate pain and stiffness associated with conditions such as arthritis and fibromyalgia

  5. Regular sauna use may help to boost the immune system and reduce the risk of illness
